Expanding Our Egg Production: The Egg Mobile Adventure

This summer, our family has had the pleasure of participating in three local farmers markets. It’s been a delightful experience, full of new faces, warm conversations, and the satisfaction of sharing our farm’s bounty with the community.

One of the highlights has undoubtedly been the popularity of our eggs. We’ve seen an enthusiastic response from our customers, to the point where we’ve consistently sold out at every market. While it’s fantastic to have such demand, it also comes with a challenge: the disappointment of not being able to meet everyone’s needs.

During a recent dinner conversation, we brainstormed solutions to this dilemma. How could we increase our egg supply without compromising our commitment to regenerative farming and land improvement? After much discussion, we arrived at a promising solution: introducing more chickens via an “Egg Mobile.”

What’s an Egg Mobile, you ask? It’s a concept inspired by traditional farming methods, designed to enhance the natural foraging experience for chickens while benefiting the land they roam. Here’s how it works:

The Egg Mobile is essentially a mobile coop that allows chickens to roam freely and forage for bugs, scratch through natural materials like cow pies, and spread their manure in a controlled manner. This movement not only keeps the chickens happy and healthy but also helps improve soil fertility and overall land health.

We were fortunate to find a local egg farm with laying hens available at just the right time. By integrating these new chickens into our system, we aim to boost our egg production while staying true to our values. These hens will enjoy a diet of non-GMO, corn & soy-free feed sourced from Montana, ensuring they remain healthy and produce top-quality eggs.

Our goal is to strike a balance between meeting customer demand and maintaining our commitment to sustainable farming practices. With the Egg Mobile and our new flock of hens, we’re excited about the opportunity to enhance our egg supply and continue providing fresh, nutritious eggs to our community.

The new chicken coop is coming along nicely too! These hens will be transferred to the new coop in the fall when the weather starts to turn towards winter.  To follow the adventures of the new coop head on over to NEW COOP.

We’re grateful for the support and enthusiasm from all of you and look forward to seeing you at the markets with a full stock of eggs in the near future!
